Downtown Streetscape Celebration & French Market Grand Opening

Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 20 for the Downtown Streetscape Celebration! The event will take place west of the new pavilion at Liberty and Main with activities starting at 9 a.m. and remarks and a ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m. Come enjoy music, entertainment, face painting and more with the City of Wheaton and the Downtown Wheaton Association. We will also celebrate the grand opening of The French Market under the new pavilion. 

City Council Thanks Councilwoman Suzanne Fitch for 8 Years of Service

In recognition of Councilwoman Suzanne Fitch's final meeting on the Wheaton City Council, during Monday's Council meeting, Councilwoman Fitch received a proclamation honoring her many years of service to the community. This includes 8 years as an At-Large representative on the Wheaton City Council and 5 years on the Planning & Zoning Board.

Temporary Road Closures for Wheaton Outreach 5K on April 22

Several streets will be temporarily closed during the Wheaton Outreach 5K Run, Walk, and Wheel on Saturday, April 22. The following streets will be temporarily closed: Cross Street between Seminary Avenue & Franklin Street; Franklin Street between Main Street & Washington Street; Washington Street between Franklin Street & Wesley Street; Seminary Avenue between Washington Street & President Street; Wakeman Avenue between President Street & Scott Street; and Scott Street between Wakeman Avenue & Franklin Street. Roads will remain closed from 9:30 a.m. to approximately 12:00 p.m. See a map of the road closures.

Wheaton Police Visit Hawthorne Elementary School

Wheaton Police officers visited with Hawthorne Elementary School students this week as part of the City's partnership with Community Unit School District 200 to create safe schools in our community. This year, the Wheaton Police Department is working with Hawthorne on a D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) pilot program, which the police department is looking to expand to other schools in the community in the near future.

Downtown Wheaton Association to Host Touch-A-Truck on April 29

On April 29, Liberty Drive will be closed between Wheaton Avenue and Main Street, to make way for trucks, construction vehicles, emergency vehicles, and more. Join the Downtown Wheaton Association from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for this free, family-friendly event. Get up close, climb, honk, and touch these cool vehicles from right behind the wheel. Don't Miss the Native Plant Sale Taking Place on April 29

Wheaton has an opportunity to “grow native” with the return of the Native Plant Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at the City’s Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. You can pre-order rain barrels and composters for pickup at the sale or delivery to your home. Mail-in orders are due April 21 and online orders are due April 25 for rain barrels and composters. See more information or order through the Conservation Foundation. This event is provided through the partnership of the City's Environmental Improvement Commission, City of Wheaton and Wheaton Park District.

Bring Prescription Drugs to Drop Off Event at Wheaton Police Department on April 22

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, you can safely dispose of unwanted or expired prescription drugs for free at a drop-off event at the Wheaton Police Department sponsored by State Senator Seth Lewis and State Representative Amy Grant. This drive-through event allows you to remain in your vehicle. Just follow the marked lanes and directional signs as you enter and exit the parking lot at the Wheaton Police Department, located at 900 W. Liberty Drive. Parkway Tree Pruning Program Continues for 2023 Season

The City’s Parkway Tree Pruning Program continues for the 2023 season as crews will start pruning parkway trees in the following areas: Brighton Drive to the North, Chatham Drive to the East, Butterfield Road to the South, and Orchard Road to the West. Residents can expect to see City owned and contractor owned bucket trucks and chippers in work areas. Signage will be present to notify residents they are entering an active tree pruning work zone.



Enrollment Open for Next School Year at Jefferson Early Childhood Center

Community Unit School District 200 is now enrolling students for the next school year at Jefferson Early Childhood Center, District 200’s early learning opportunity for all 3 and 4-year-olds in the community. Jefferson offers a seamless transition into District 200’s elementary curriculum in kindergarten. You can find more information at www.cusd200.org/jefferson or watch this overview video.
