Tree Planting Program Graphic

Shared Cost Parkway Tree Planting Program

With the start of a new year comes a new opportunity for you to add a parkway tree in front of your property. The Forestry Division is now accepting applications for the 2023 Shared Cost Parkway Tree Planting Program. As we continue seeking ways to encourage sustainable actions in our community, this year’s program has been significantly expanded to provide shared-cost funding for up to 200 new trees on a first-come, first-served basis.

Open now through March 1, this program allows property owners to pay $95 per tree to have City crews plant a new tree in the parkway adjacent to their property. Property owners can select from up to 12 species. See the City's website for the application and more information.

Detour on Dorchester Avenue due to Wheaton Sanitary District Project

Dorchester Avenue will be closed between Lakeside Drive and Childs Street starting Jan. 12 and lasting for approximately 2 weeks while Wheaton Sanitary District installs new sewer mains. This work is part of the Wheaton Sanitary District's Northside Interceptor Project. Traffic will be detoured from Dorchester to Lakeside Drive to Childs around this detour.

City's Website Includes Information about Streams Lake Proposed Project

The City is investigating the best approach to address a recurring problem that affects the Streams Lakes, requiring the City to remove large amounts sediment every 5-7 years to improve water quality, control erosion and restore the lake volume. The City is considering a solution that would replace the lakes with a meandering channel. You can find out more about the proposed project at www.wheaton.il.us/streamslake.
