Sergeant Smith Completes Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety Staff & CommandThe Wheaton Police Department is pleased to announce the recent graduation of Sgt. Angela Smith from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command, where she was named Class President. The academically challenging 10-week program provided instruction and training specifically focused for the law enforcement community as part of The Center for Public Safety. The Wheaton Police Department anticipates a variety of benefits from Sgt. Smith’s attendance in the program, including the advanced instruction she received in the areas of strategic planning, management, leadership and organizational behavior. Continued education and development through this program are an example of the Wheaton Police Department’s commitment to ensuring Wheaton’s police force is well developed, highly trained and ready to serve in any situation.
As part of this program, participants choose an organization to support, which serves as a legacy gift of their participation. SPSC Class 531 selected both Partners for Progress Therapeutic Equestrian Center in Wauconda and Cal’s Angels, which raises money for pediatric cancer research, grants wishes and raises awareness. Class 531 collectively raised more than $18,000 for the organizations.

Holiday Shopping Crime Prevention TipsSome simple actions on your part can help prevent crimes from putting a damper on your holiday season.
Online shoppers should take precautions to avoid theft by “Porch Pirates” with their online purchase deliveries. The Wheaton Police Department recommends residents keep their deliveries safe by: - Tracking your packages and having neighbors or relatives move your delivered packages indoors as soon as possible when not at home.
- Leaving special delivery instructions to have packages placed out of sight of potential thieves.
- Having a video doorbell to deter potential thieves.

New Historic Site Marker in Downtown WheatonNext time you're in downtown Wheaton, check out the new historic site marker at the northwest corner of Liberty and Main Street commemorating the former Chicago, Elgin and Aurora train station that previously stood at the site. The marker stands on one of the original balusters from the 1912 train station. This electric rail line was in service until 1957, and now the Illinois Prairie Path follows the track of this once busy rail line. Thank you to the City's Historic Commission for leading this project and to Michael Bowen for preserving and donating the baluster.
