Walk Your Wheels

Walk Your Wheels in Downtown Wheaton

Warmer temperatures (finally!) bring more people out to walk, ride, shop and dine. Please do your part to keep pedestrians safe by walking - NOT RIDING - your bike/skateboard/scooter on downtown sidewalks. Riding on downtown sidewalks is prohibited, and violators can be fined. Note that the exception is the part of the Illinois Prairie Path that runs through the downtown.

Traffic Lights Out on Main Street

Please note that traffic lights on Main Street at the intersections of Main & Front and Main & Liberty currently are not functioning due to an electrical issue. Drivers should treat these intersections an all-way stop and may want to use an alternate street to avoid traffic backups. In addition, the street lights on Front Street between Cross and West Streets are also affected by this outage. ComEd crews have been dispatched. The City anticipates this outage will last throughout the evening. Thank you for your patience.

Polar Plunge

Highlights from the Polar Plunge

The Wheaton Police Department thanks the community for their support of its Polar Plunge benefitting Special Olympics Illinois programs. Team Frosted Donuts braved some VERY cold temperatures on Saturday for its plunge into frigid waters. Take a look at some highlights.

Roosevelt Road Corridor Input Sessions Taking Place March 23 & 24

In one week, the City will hold two community input sessions to gather feedback on the updated Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan. If you’d like to submit comments online through the City’s website, please do so by Friday, March 18 so comments can be compiled before these sessions. You can find the updated plan, online comment form and information about the meetings on the City’s website at www.wheaton.il.us/rooseveltroad.

Q & A Video 4: Body Worn Cameras

Over the past few weeks, the Wheaton Police Department has been answering some of the most common questions about body worn cameras as we prepare to equip all sworn officers with body worn cameras next month. In this video, Sgt. Salzmann addresses whether cameras mean the Police Department now will have a full account of every incident, and he talks about how videos are stored.
