An Open Letter to the Community from Wheaton Police Chief Murphy

Recent events throughout the country and in this area have generated many questions and sparked a national debate about policing and racism. To address inquiries the City has received, to help inform the community of the Wheaton Police Department’s practices, and to further the discussion on policing as it occurs in Wheaton, Chief of Police Bill Murphy is providing this letter to the community.

COVID testing site

COVID-19 Testing Site Now in Wheaton

DuPage County opened a new drive-through COVID-19 testing site at the DuPage County Government Campus in Wheaton yesterday, offering free testing for all DuPage County residents. Watch this video about the new testing site. You do not need an appointment, doctor referral or insurance to receive a test. Testing is available to anyone, and the site is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Read more on the City's website.

City Hall

City Hall to Reopen June 22

Wheaton City Hall and the Wheaton Police Department lobby will be reopening to the public on Monday, June 22, 2020, with several changes in place for the safety of the community and City staff. Please read about these changes if you plan to visit City Hall or the Wheaton Police Department.

Wheaton Municipal Band Sharing Virtual Concerts

It wouldn’t be summer without the Wheaton Municipal Band concerts. Starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 18, join the Wheaton Municipal Band for a series of web concerts available on the band’s Facebook page.

Concerts will be available on Thursdays from June 18 through Aug. 6, featuring introductory interviews with individuals involved with the band, followed by recordings of past concerts with the band’s favorite selections. The band will add a virtual concert from the past each Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Police Arrest Man for Battery to Police Officer, Burglary

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Wheaton Police Chief Bill Murphy announced a man was taken into custody on June 12, stemming from an incident that occurred at Mariano’s, 625 S. Main St, on June 2, 2020. Timothy J. Meijer, 32 years of age, of Woodstock, Ill., was taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery to a Police Officer, two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding, and burglary. Wheaton Park District Adds Virtual Recreation Center

This week, the Wheaton Park District launched its Virtual Recreation Center for the community, consisting of free online activities and resources in a variety of areas for residents of all ages. Create, discover, play wherever you are at www.wheatonparkdistrict.com/virtualrec. 


Proclamation Establishes Pride Week June 22-28

At its June 15 meeting, the Wheaton City Council read a proclamation making June 22-28 Pride Week in the City of Wheaton to promote the principles of equality and liberty for all of our residents. The month of June is traditionally recognized as LGBTQ+ Pride Month. In recognition of the fact that Wheaton is dedicated to the acceptance of all of its residents, regardless of age, beliefs, color, disability, ethnicity, identity, race, religion, sex and sexual orientation, the City established Pride Week. The proclamation aims to make all residents and visitors in our community feel valued, safe, empowered and supported by peers, educators, community leaders and other citizens.


Lisle Hosting Electronic Recycling

If you missed last weekend's electronic recycling event, DuPage County residents can attend a recycling event at the downtown Lisle Commuter Parking Lot B, located just west of Village Hall, 925 Burlington Avenue. The collection will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 20. For more information, see the Village of Lisle's website.
