Take Part in Gingerbread House Contest
Wheaton Public Library will host a Gingerbread House Contest on Saturday, December 14 at 1 p.m. in the library’s Arts & Culture Center on the main floor. No registration is required to enter the contest, but participants must drop off their edible creations between noon and 1 p.m. on the day of the contest.
Prizes will be awarded for the following categories: Children (up through 5th grade), Teen (6th-12th grade), Adult (18+), and People’s Choice (voted by program attendees). Group entries are allowed, but each group or individual may enter only one house per category. Entries must be decorated primarily by a person of the age in the category in which they are entered.
Visit Downtown Wheaton: Phase 2 of Downtown Improvements Completed
Wesley Street, Hale Street and Cross Street in downtown Wheaton are open for all to use, featuring numerous improvements just in time for holiday shopping and dining. The City of Wheaton recently completed Phase 2 of its extensive Downtown Streetscape Project, which is improving infrastructure both underground and aboveground. Read more on the City's website.
Final Pickup for Yard Waste & Leaves
This is the final week for Lakeshore Recycling Systems to pick up leaf and yard waste. Pickups are on your regular garbage day. Note that there will be a separate pickup for Christmas tree recycling at the end of December into early January.
Submit Comments on Proposed Building Amendments
The City of Wheaton is in the process of updating building codes to the 2018 editions of the International Code Council, Inc (ICC) and will be adopting local amendments of those building codes appropriate for the City of Wheaton. Adoption of the most recent ICC building code editions with local amendments promotes the health, safety, and welfare of our community.
