Wheaton's Annual Native Plant Sale is April 28

native plant sale

Wheaton's annual Native Plant Sale will take place on Saturday, April 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the City’s Public Works building, 821 W Liberty Drive. You will find flowers, grasses, trees and other plants native to Illinois available for sale.

This event is a partnership between the City of Wheaton, Wheaton Environmental Commission and Wheaton Park District to promote environmentally friendly planting in the community. Native plants are adapted to the soils and climate of our area. They’re beneficial because they don’t require irrigation or fertilizer, are resistant to drought and insects, will not harm or degrade native ecosystems, and are beautiful and interesting.

You can also pre-order a rain barrel to pick up at the sale, or pick up free wood chips (bring your own container). To preorder a rain barrel from the Conservation Foundation, visit http://www.upcycle-products.com/wheatonil.html. For a list of the plants that will be available, see the Wheaton Park District’s website. Please note that this event only accepts cash or checks.
