Dear Wheaton Residents:
I want to share with you how the City of Wheaton is addressing the COVID-19 virus. Our first priority is the health and safety of our residents. In this regard, I request that all of our residents take this public health crisis seriously. The virus exists in DuPage County.
I encourage and request that all residents avoid large gatherings. Meetings and gatherings can be canceled and rescheduled. There is no downside in doing this.
Practice social distancing. The objective is the mitigate the spread of the virus to the extent possible by reducing social interactions.
I can assure you that Wheaton is planning and preparing for the local and regional challenges that will likely result from the spread of COVID-19. Our public safety departments are prepared to respond and are in close coordination with their county, state, federal and mutual aid partners. Our first responders are prepared and ready for the task at hand and their dedication to our community and expertise is reassuring.
Wheaton is committed to effective communication throughout this new reality brought on by COVID-19. I urge you to check the Wheaton website at www.wheaton.il.us/COVID-19 and learn more information about the changes to City operations. You may follow the City on Facebook and Twitter. You can also sign up for up-to-date notifications on our website.
In closing, I ask for your patience – City operations, response times, and service for non-emergencies moving forward will require reassessment and adaptation. Generally, people will be able to access some City services online and call or email the City with questions during regular business hours. As the COVID-19 crisis continues, let’s look out for each other, follow the recommendations of public health professionals, and appreciate the efforts of others – including grocery store employees, medical professionals, pharmacy staff, and first responders. City officials will be continually re-evaluating this situation as it progresses and will continue to provide you with updates.
We’re all in this together, and the strong Wheaton community spirit will help us to confront this challenge head on.
Stay well and best regards,
Mayor Phil Suess
