In October 2023, the Wheaton Community Relations Commission invited Wheaton residents to participate in Wheaton Gives Back, an effort to help neighbors in need. The commission partnered with the People's Resource Center, Downtown Wheaton Association, and Wheaton Park District through two programs.
Winter Clothing Donations
Residents dropped off new or gently used winter clothing (hats, scarves, gloves, coats) in donation boxes located throughout downtown Wheaton. Participating locations included: THANK YOU to these participating collection sites!: 302 Wheaton, Adelle’s, Alphagraphics, Amante Marketplace, Best-Way Rug and Furniture Cleaners, Cedarstone Partners, DuPage Art League, Edge Financial Advisors, Egglectic Café, Frocks and Frills Vintage, Jovie/College Tutors, Miroballi Shoes, NEXT Yoga, Noteable Notes Music Academy, Wheaton City Hall, Wheaton Public Library, Arrowhead, The Perfect Thing, Wheaton Community Center, and Central Athletic Complex
The results of this Wheaton Gives Back winter clothing drive were astounding! The community donated more than 2,000 articles of winter clothing for neighbors in need! The Community Relations Commission and the People's Resource Center thank the community for their generous contributions. According to the People's Resource Center, the timing of these donations are especially helpful, when there is a greater need for their food pantry and clothes closet.
Unload the Truck
The Wheaton Gives Back program also included a volunteer opportunity to unload food for residents in need during the People Resource Center's Stuff-A-Truck event on Oct. 27. Thank you to those who volunteered for the event!
