Creekside Bridge Replacement Project

Based upon its age, the Creekside Drive bridge over Spring Brook Creek (located on Creekside Drive between Spring Green Drive and Gone Away Lane) is reaching the end of its useful life and is due for replacement. To continue enhancing the community’s infrastructure, the Wheaton City Council recently authorized Herlihy Mid-Continent Company to replace the bridge.

Project Updates:

  • 7/31/23: While preliminary work is underway, the detour start date has been updated to Aug. 7. Creekside Drive will remain open until Aug. 7. Please use caution in the work area during this preliminary work phase.

Project Timeline

Work is scheduled to begin the week of July 24, 2023 and is expected to finish by Nov. 1, 2023, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Project Scope

The project scope includes:

  • relocating utilities
  • removing the old structure
  • installing new bridge supports, beams and decking; and
  • restoring disrupted landscaping.

Detour

Temporary detour signs will direct traffic around the construction area using Spring Green Drive and Stonebridge Trail.

Information for Nearby Residents

The City and Herlihy Mid-Continent Company will provide additional notices to residents in the construction zone with information on where to park while work is in progress. Some residents will need to park on the roadway for a few days while crews replace their drive approach.

Emergency vehicles will have access to homes and garbage/recycling service will continue during construction. Residents should continue to place trash/recycling cans and yard waste on the curb unless otherwise directed by LRS or the City.

The City of Wheaton and District 200 are working together to plan for affected school traffic and bus routes, and nearby schools will communicate any necessary changes to affected school communities.
