- Adams Park: An Accredited Arboretum
http://www.arbnet.org: ArbNet, an interactive, collaborative, international community of arboreta and tree-focused professionals. ArbNet facilitates the sharing of knowledge, experience, and other resources to help arboreta meet their institutional goals and works to raise professional standards through the ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program.
Developed in 2023, the City of Wheaton created The Arboretum at Adams Park, an ArbNet Accredited Arboretum. The goal of this arboretum is to offer an enjoyable, informational, peaceful, and relaxing nature-inspired environment.
The Arboretum at Adams Park is a 2.5-acre park that has a total of 138 trees, of which there are 53 different tree species, dozens of types of shrubs, perennials & bulbs, a historic central water fountain, winding walking paths, benches, and plenty of open spaces to enjoy.
Besides the vast amount of plant materials in the arboretum, informational signage will be placed along the pathways and an online GIS-based tree inventory is available with several attributes (Tree ID, Common Name, Tree Condition, Diameter size, Last Prune Date, Location).
