WHEATON, Ill. – The Wheaton City Council is moving forward with work on their downtown streetscape project after voting to authorize an agreement with Primera Engineering, Ltd. during the December 19 Council meeting. The engineering company will assist the City with the design and construction management of public improvements on Front Street between West Street and Cross Street.
"The City of Wheaton has been planning the downtown streetscape project for more than four years, and we're excited to begin work on the much-needed improvements that will increase the marketability and attractiveness of our City," said Wheaton City Manager Michael Dzugan.
Primera Engineering, Ltd. has begun survey work on Front Street and will complete design drawings and specifications over the summer. Underground utility work will begin later this fall.
The entire downtown project will take close to five years to complete, bringing together the vision the City Council, City staff, residents and local stakeholders created together. Significant infrastructure improvements will be made to Downtown in this diverse and substantial project, including wayfinding signage, benches, trees, lighting and overall upgrades to the streetscape.
