Wheaton Fire Department Responds to Three-Alarm Fire
WHEATON, Ill. – At 2:43 p.m. July 4, 2012, the Wheaton Fire Department responded to a report of an activated residential fire alarm at 876 Tara Court. Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire present in the house’s attic. The fire was upgraded to a three-alarm fire.
The structure sustained heavy fire damage to the attic and second floor of the house. The entire house sustained water damage. The sole occupant home at the time of the fire evacuated before the Wheaton Fire Department arrived. Two pets also made it out of the fire.
Thirty-six fire units and six medical units responded to the fire, with a total of approximately 75 firefighters responding. Approximately 13 other fire departments, the Wheaton Police Department and a representative of the Building and Code Enforcement Department assisted with this incident.
In spite of the 101-degree temperature, there were no reported injuries to any of the firefighters, since crews were rotated out of the fire ground on a regular basis.
The DuPage County Fire Investigation Team was dispatched to the scene in order to investigate the cause of the fire. The cause is currently undetermined and is still under investigation. There is no damage estimate at this time.
