Fire Department Extinguishes House Fire

WHEATON, Ill. - At approximately 1:00 a.m. on September 20, 2017 the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1307 E. Illinois. Upon arrival, fire crews identified a fire in a clothes dryer that was extending to the adjoining room. The fire was brought under control within minutes. The occupants safely escaped the building and the incident did not result in any injuries.

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation. The cause of the fire is deemed accidental and it appears to be related to the clothes dryer. Damage estimates are unavailable at this time. The building was posted uninhabitable due to smoke damage. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities. The building was turned back over to the owner after the fire.
