Firefighters Extinguish Townhome Fire

WHEATON, Ill. – At approximately 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 4, 2017 the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in a townhome unit located at 1921 Wexford Circle. The building contains four townhome units. Upon arrival, fire crews identified a fire on the rear exterior of 1921 Wexford, which had spread into the basement of the unit.

The fire was brought under control within minutes, and it was contained to the single unit. The unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and all other occupants of the building safely evacuated. There were no injuries.

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation. The cause of the fire is deemed accidental and appears to have been related to an electrical problem associated with landscape lighting. Damage estimates are unavailable at this time.

The Wheaton Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities. The building was turned back over to the property owner after the fire.
