Housing Commission

The Wheaton Housing Commission, established in 1972, advises the City Council on housing-related matters. The commission oversees the city-funded Senior Housing Assistance Program, which provides monthly financial assistance for eligible Wheaton residents age 65 or older. In order to qualify for the program, seniors must have been residents for at least 3 years, be at least 65 years old and have a total annual household income of $20,600 or less. For more information, see the Senior Housing Assistance Application (pdf), stop by City Hall at 303 W. Wesley St., or call Sharon Barrett-Hagen at 630-260-2019.

In fiscal year 2008-09, the Housing Commission assisted 58 Wheaton senior citizens with monthly checks of $97 to $145 for housing expenses. The City Council budgets approximately $85,500 annually for this program.
