Fire Inspection Program

Home Fire Inspections

The Wheaton Fire Department provides home fire inspections for Wheaton homeowners. This advisory inspection will assist homeowners by providing information on how they can prevent and escape fires within their home. Having a plan is the most important element of surviving a fire. To schedule a home fire inspection, call 630-260-2175.

Business Fire Inspections

In addition to education/and informational activities, Fire Department personnel also conduct fire prevention inspections within business, assembly, and educational occupancies. Personnel use the inspection process primarily to educate the business community in a personal format while also identifying hazards in order to gain code compliance and minimize the occurrences of fire.

Within the City of Wheaton, the Building Department, by local ordinance, is the authority having jurisdiction over all building-related code matters, including fire prevention. The Building Department is responsible for plan review and permit issuance related to fire code applications. The Fire Department functions under the authority of the Director of the Building Department in matters related to fire and building codes.

Initial inquiries related to fire and building code matters should be directed to the Building Department. Any inquiries regarding Knox Boxes (fire department lock boxes) can be directed to the Fire Department at 630-260-2175.

Fire Inspection Handbook

The Wheaton Fire Department conducts fire safety inspections of business, commercial, and multi-family residential properties. For more information, please see the Fire Inspection Handbook.
