Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission

Purpose

The purpose of the Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission is to:

  1. Provide advice and recommend strategies to the City Council to encourage and foster bicycling and pedestrian opportunities, and to consider access issues in the city.
  2. Promote bicyclist and pedestrian education programs in the school systems and disseminate safety information to the public at large.
  3. Review and make recommendations regarding implementation of the Wheaton Bicycle Plan, September 2011, as amended.
  4. Establish and maintain an information network with those agencies, individuals, and organizations within the city that advocate bicycling and walking and promote the sharing of resources among them. 

Meetings

The Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission generally meets at 7:00 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at City Hall. All meetings are open to residents. You are welcome to attend, share your thoughts, or observe to see if you would like to apply for a position. 2025 Group Rides & Events

  • As the weather warms up, we encourage everyone to get out and go on their own walk to explore the Andy Warhol Fire Hydrants in Wheaton.
  • If you encounter problems biking or walking in Wheaton due to potholes or damaged sidewalks, please reach out to the city with a Service Request.
  • If you're 50 or older, check out the Pedal Pushers.

History Rides

Each year, the Bicyclist & Pedestrian Commission leads a history ride covering a different topic with stops at significant places in Wheaton. You can use the following maps and videos to take these rides virtually and learn more at each stop. 

Bicycle Donations

The Wheaton Park District accepts bicycle donations as a Working Bikes donation dropoff site. Accepted items include adult bikes in repairable condition, gently used kids' bikes, bike parts, tools and accessories.

Hours: 5 a.m. and 9 p.m Monday-Friday; 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday
