Wheaton City Council Highlights
Meeting: Aug. 1, 2011

Residents Reappointed to Commissions

The City Council approved the reappointment of Chris Ellerman, Thomas Hudock and Elsa Miller to three-year terms on the Housing Commission.

Planned Unit Development Approved for Church

The Council approved a zoning request to redevelop the former Alcoa Flexible Packaging Plant at 935 W. Union Ave. as a church with a maximum sanctuary size of 990 seats. The Planned Unit Development request was submitted by Church of the Resurrection. City staff recommended the Council approve the request if six conditions are met relating to parking, landscaping, sidewalks and the consolidation of plats with appropriate stormwater management and easements. The Council discussed a minor adjustment to the ordinance prohibiting parking on one side of Lincoln Avenue from Lyon to the end of the street to ensure emergency vehicles can access the area.

Council Considers Changes to Ambulance Fees

The Council received a first reading of an ordinance that would adjust the ambulance user fee for residents based upon the Medicare allowable reimbursement rate and would adjust the non-resident user fee to a rate that is the average of nearby communities studied.
