Resident Appointed to Historic Commission
The Council approved the appointment of John Jackson to a three-year term on the Historic Commission.
Council Approves Contract for Software System Analysis
The City Council approved a contract with Pacific Technologies Inc., a technology consultant. The City will soon be purchasing a new financial system designed to integrate the software that different departments use in providing City services. The consultant will be analyzing the current systems used, determining the City’s needs for software replacements and identifying an appropriate financial system for the City to implement.
Council Encourages Support for Troops through July 16 Event
The City Council presented a proclamation to representatives from Operation Support Our Troops – America honoring the group’s work. Among its accomplishments are sending 310 tons of goods – one 25-pound package at a time – to troops overseas; providing support seminars for families of fallen troops; and raising money for veterans care programs. The Council encourages the community to support the organization’s sixth annual Rockin’ for the Troops event July 16, 2011 at Cantigny Park.
July 15-16 Wheaton Band Festival Days
In honor of the Wheaton Band Festival, Mayor Pro Tem Mouhelis presented festival representatives with a proclamation making July 15-16, 2011 Wheaton Band Festival Days in Wheaton. The event began in 2000 as a means for community, brass and military bands from several states to bring quality band music to Memorial Park. In addition to a variety of all-volunteer ensembles providing performances during the two-day event, the Wheaton Band Festival also collects thousands of dollars worth of music instruments for disadvantaged children.
Finance Department Receives 28th Consecutive Award
For the 28th consecutive year, Wheaton’s Finance Department received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting. Mayor Pro Tem Mouhelis presented the award to Director of Finance Robert Lehnhardt.
